Main Street Momence is an Illinois 501c(3) non-profit preservation and economic development organization working to revitalize Momence's pioneer-era downtown district. Our volunteer-driven group aims to preserve and promote the historic, cultural, social and economic vitality of downtown Momence and to foster a spirit of community teamwork that will result in a vibrant and inviting downtown district.
Our program employs as its redevelopment strategy the trademarked “Four-point Approach.” This method encompasses ongoing work in four distinct areas — Design, Economic Restructuring, Promotion and Organization — which, together, comprehensively address the commercial district's revitalization needs. We also hew to Main Street’s accompanying “Eight Guiding Principles,” which stress an incremental process of downtown revitalization, self-help, quality projects and an appreciation of our unique local assets.
Momence is one of only 60 towns in the state of Illinois designated a Main Street community. MSM was inducted into the program in 2005. The program operates out of the office of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity under the auspices of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
"One of Kankakee County's most active, engaged and effective
non-profit organizations, Main Street Momence is a vital partner
in the regional economic development landscape."
